Douglas Haldane MBE, FRCPsych (1926-2012) was a notable Scottish child psychiatrist who founded Great Britain's first Child and Family Psychiatry department in 1960. He pioneered the first family in-patient treatment unit in Scotland and introduced innovative therapeutic art interventions. Haldane was involved in numerous policy working groups, was a founding member of the Association for Family Therapy, and co-founded the Scottish Institute of Human Relations. His academic influence extended to government policy on marriage, and he was an active elder in the Church of Scotland and early Iona Community member.
