Douglas Edward Lea was an experimental physicist noted for his contributions to radiobiology. He worked at the Cavendish Laboratory and later at Strangeways Laboratory and the Royal College of Surgeons. Lea published 'The Actions of Radiation on Living Cells' in 1946, influencing the field of cell death by ionising radiation. In 1943, he became the first honorary physicist at Addenbrooke's Hospital and was appointed Reader in Radiobiology shortly before his untimely death at 37. He was a close associate of Louis Harold Gray.
