Air Marshal Douglas John Stuart Riding is a retired senior Royal Australian Air Force commander and served as Vice Chief of the Defence Force. Born on May 6, 1943, in Burwood, New South Wales, he joined the RAAF in 1962. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. Riding held various senior positions in the RAAF during the 1990s before becoming VCDF in 1998. He retired in June 2000 and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the same year.
