Juan Jose Martinez, known as Down AKA Kilo, is an American rapper from Oxnard, California, born in 1985. His parents were undocumented immigrants from Mexico. Inspired by groups like Cypress Hill and N.W.A, he started rapping at 13 and recorded his first tracks with childhood friend E-Dub Rios. Down released his debut album, California Cowboyz, in 2003, followed by Definition of an Ese in 2007, featuring hit singles like 'Lean like a Cholo'. His career faced a setback in March 2009 when he was involved in a car crash that left him in a coma.
