Dr. Dahesh, born Salim Moussa Al-Ashi in Bethlehem in 1909, was a Lebanese writer and founder of the Daheshist spiritual belief established in 1942. He faced persecution during the presidency of Bashir al-Khouri, resulting in imprisonment and the revocation of his Lebanese citizenship. Subsequently, he emigrated to the United States where he promoted his ideas. He was known for collecting art and antiques and established the Dahesh Museum of Art in New York. He also created a publishing house for his numerous books and published a quarterly magazine, Sawt Dahesh, in Arabic and English.
