Dragan Cigan was a Bosnian Serb who became a hero for sacrificing his life to save two children from drowning in the Adriatic Sea. After fleeing the war in Bosnia and moving to Italy, he worked as a construction worker. On July 22, 2007, during a beach outing, he bravely jumped into a dangerous current to rescue a 4-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. Tragically, Cigan drowned in the attempt, but his heroic act was recognized posthumously with a gold medal for valor.
