Melvin 'Duke' Markham was an American baseball outfielder born Melvin Nesbit on December 14, 1906. He played in the Negro leagues for the Newark Dodgers and Eagles during the 1935 and 1936 seasons. Markham's life was tragically cut short when he was shot and killed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on January 29, 1939.
