Dumisani Maraire was a Zimbabwean musician, composer, and educator born on August 24, 1943, in Chakowa, Zimbabwe. He grew up in a musical Methodist family and became a virtuoso of the Nyunga-Nyunga Mbira and Marimba after studying at Kwanongoma College. He worked as a visiting artist at the University of Washington and taught at Evergreen State College and the University of Zimbabwe. Maraire established a music ethnology program in Zimbabwe and contributed to Marimba ensembles in the US. He passed away on November 25, 1999.
