He passed away on June 27, 2020, at the age of 111 years, 7 months, and 19 days. Following the death of Bob Weighton on May 28, 2020, he became the world's oldest living male, a title confirmed by Guinness World Records. His reign lasted almost a month before he died, after which Saturnino de la Fuente García succeeded him. However, it was later established that Emilio Flores Marquez was actually older.
