Dumitru Fărcaș (1938-2018) was a renowned Romanian taragot player who gained international acclaim for his mastery of the instrument. Born in Groși, Maramureș, he came from a musical family and studied oboe at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy. Fărcaș led the Mărțișorul orchestra, winning numerous national and international awards. He was honored as a citizen of several Romanian cities and Pyongyang, awarded a Doctor honoris causa degree, and knighted by Romania’s president on his 80th birthday, receiving the National Order of Faithful Service before his death in 2018.
