His work has been recognized by NPR as one of the top solo guitar records of 2016. His musical style is noted for expanding on the Takoma School roots, moving toward chamber folk compositions akin to those created by James Blackshaw and William Tyler. Aycock is credited with playing nine different instruments, including violin, drums, pedal steel guitar, and synthesizers, contributing to the ambiance of his music.
