E. Sreedharan, born on June 12, 1932, is an Indian engineer and politician renowned for transforming India's public transport through the construction of the Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro. He served as the Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation from 1995 to 2012. Known as the 'Metro Man', he has received several prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri (2001), Padma Vibhushan (2008), and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (2005). In 2015, he was appointed to the UN's High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport.
