Earnest East was a musician known for playing the fiddle, guitar, and banjo. He started his career with the Camp Creek Boys and later founded the Pine Ridge Boys in 1966. The band released their debut album 'Old Time Mountain Music' in 1969. A second album, 'Stringband Music From Mt. Airy', followed in 1981. East earned several folklore awards during his lifetime, such as the Brown-Hudson Folklore Award in 1988 and the North Carolina Folk Heritage Award in 1990.
