He earned degrees from Valley City State University and the University of North Dakota and served as a wrestling coach at Bismarck State College. He was a recognized coach, winning NWCA National Junior College Coach of the Year twice, and was inducted into multiple Halls of Fame. Kringstad served in the North Dakota State Senate from 1995 to 2006 as a Republican and passed away on May 4, 2013.
