Smith began competing in skeleton in 2008 and joined the British national team. His first international race was in the 2008/09 Skeleton Europa Cup, where he finished 27th. Throughout his career, he achieved several podium finishes, including wins in the Europa Cup and placements in the Intercontinental Cup and World Cup events.
