He was a Liverpool undertaker known for writing songs for popular Lancashire actor George Formby. Notable titles include 'Grandad's Flannelette Nightshirt' and 'Auntie Maggies Remedy'. Latta collaborated on numerous Formby films throughout the 1940s. He co-ran a funeral business with his brother and was responsible for Formby's funeral arrangements in 1961 due to their close association. Latta was also featured in the documentary 'The Life and Wartimes of George Formby' in 1967.
