He played as a left winger and striker, prominently featured in the Brazilian national team during the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. He is remembered for his powerful shot and scoring a spectacular goal against the Soviet Union's goalkeeper, Lev Yashin, which is considered one of the greatest goals of the tournament. His nickname is 'the cannonball' due to his incredible shooting ability.
