Edgar de Aquino Duarte was a Brazilian militant born on February 28, 1941, in Bom Jardim, Pernambuco. A member of the Brazilian Navy, he was exiled after the military coup in 1964 and returned to Brazil in 1968, living clandestinely. He was arrested in June 1971 and was reported missing after being seen for the last time in June 1973. Duarte's case is part of investigations into human rights abuses during Brazil's military dictatorship, highlighting issues of torture and forced disappearance.
