Edgar Ende (February 23, 1901 – December 27, 1965) was a German surrealist artist and father of children's author Michael Ende. Born in Altona, he studied at the Altona School of Arts and Crafts from 1916 to 1920. Ende's surrealist paintings gained critical attention in the 1930s but were later condemned by the Nazi regime as degenerate art, leading to a ban on his work. He served in the Luftwaffe during World War II and lost most of his pre-war works in an air raid on Munich in 1944. Ende became an official surrealist after meeting André Breton in 1951.
