Edgar Lersch is a German archivist and media historian, born on October 10, 1945, in Ahrweiler. He studied history, education, Catholic theology, and philosophy at the universities of Trier and Tübingen. He earned his doctorate in 1977 with a dissertation on the Soviet Union's foreign cultural policy in the 1920s. Lersch directed the Historical Archive of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk from 1979 until his retirement in 2010 and has been an honorary professor for media history and archival science at the University of Halle-Wittenberg since 2001.
