Edgar Dean "Ed" Mitchell (September 17, 1930 – February 4, 2016) was an American naval officer, aviator, aerospace engineer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. He was the sixth person to walk on the Moon during the Apollo 14 mission, spending a total of nine hours on the lunar surface in the Fra Mauro Highlands region. Mitchell was selected as part of Astronaut Group 5.
