Edgar Preston Richardson was an influential American art historian and museum director, known as E. P. Richardson. He directed the Detroit Institute of Arts from 1945 to 1962 and the Winterthur Museum from 1963 to 1966. An author of seven books, he also served on various boards, including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1966 to 1977. Additionally, he co-founded the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian in 1954, contributing significantly to the cultural and artistic landscape of the United States.
