Throughout his life, he worked as a freelance artist, gaining recognition for his contributions to modernism. Notably, he received the Kristjan Raud Art Award in 1974 and the Estonian Cultural Endowment annual award in 2002. Edgar Viies passed away on September 20, 2006.
