Harjo served as a code talker, utilizing his Muscogee language skills to relay coded messages. He fought in key battles including Normandy and Iwo Jima. For his military service, he received numerous honors, including recognition from Congress in November 2013, and was laid to rest with full military honors on April 1, 2014.
