Edmund L. Gettier III (born October 31, 1927) is an American philosopher and emeritus professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is best known for his short paper published in 1963 titled 'Is Justified True Belief Knowledge?', which sparked extensive philosophical debate and produced a vast amount of literature attempting to address what has come to be known as the Gettier problem.
