Edna Adan Ismail, born on September 8, 1937, is a prominent Somali politician and activist. She served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia from 2003 to 2006 and was previously the Minister of Family Welfare and Social Development. Edna is the founder and director of the Edna Adan Maternity Hospital in Hargeisa. She is well-known for her activism against female genital mutilation and is also the president of the Torture Victims Organization. She was married to Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal, a former Prime Minister and President of Somalia.
