Édouard d'Avdeew was a French gardener, horticultural engineer, and landscape designer of Russian descent. Born on February 29, 1944, in Monpazier, Dordogne, he led EVE from 1984 until his death in 1991. He was also the president of SAVE, an association dedicated to the preservation of plant heritage in France, from 1988 until 1991. D'Avdeew's work focused on environmental stewardship and the importance of green spaces.
