Eduard 'Ward' Messer (1917-2001) was a prominent Dutch journalist, known for his leadership roles in various newspapers. He was editor-in-chief and later director of the leftist daily Het Vrije Volk. During World War II, he was involved in resistance activities against the Nazis and was imprisoned twice. Post-war, he reported from the Middle East and returned to Het Vrije Volk in 1968, playing a critical role in its reorganization. Besides journalism, Messer authored several books and contributed to others. He spent his later years in Italy, where he passed away at the age of 84.
