A renowned specialist in bats, he built a significant collection of these specimens, acquired by the Uruguayan state in 1969. In addition to his work with PLUNA airlines, where he logged over 15,000 flight hours, Acosta y Lara conducted extensive field studies in various South American regions and published works focusing on ethnohistory.
