He was influenced by Argentine folklore through his study with composer Juan Carlos Paz and collaborated with prominent musicians like Astor Piazzolla and Mercedes Sosa. Lagos served as artistic director for several radio stations and contributed as a critic to various publications. He also composed music that was performed by renowned artists and was recognized with two Premio Konex awards while practicing as an ophthalmologist for nearly fifty years. He passed away on June 26, 2009.
