Edward C. T. Chao (November 30, 1919 - February 3, 2008) was a co-founder in the field of impact metamorphism, which studies the effects of meteorite collisions on the Earth's crust. He is renowned for discovering two high-pressure silica minerals in nature: coesite and stishovite.
