He served as a rotmistrz (a cavalry captain) in the Armia Krajowa (Home Army) during World War II. Sobeski was notably the commander of the 'Bończa' battalion during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. His leadership played an important role during this critical period in Polish history, which sought to liberate Warsaw from Nazi occupation.
