Born on March 1, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, he passed away on February 7, 2019, in North Haven, Connecticut. Zigler was recognized for his academic research on child development and was notably one of the architects of the federal Head Start program. His pioneering work in early childhood development greatly improved the health, educational, social, and emotional well-being of children over five decades.
