Edwin J. Gregson was an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer known for training the winner of the 1982 Kentucky Derby, Gato Del Sol. Born on August 7, 1938, he made significant contributions to horse racing. Tragically, Gregson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 4, 2000. In recognition of his impact on the horse racing community, the California Thoroughbred Trainers' charitable foundation, aimed at improving the lives of backstretch workers and their families, was renamed the Edwin J. Gregson Foundation following his passing.
