Edwin Pinto SJ was born on January 24, 1901, in Karachi, British India (now Pakistan). He became a member of the Jesuit order and was ordained a priest on September 9, 1932. On May 5, 1949, he was appointed the Bishop of Ahmedabad by Pope Pius XII, receiving episcopal consecration on October 16 of the same year. Pinto served as bishop until his resignation on August 4, 1973. He was actively involved in the Second Vatican Council, attending all four sessions.
