Edwin Schwertner (February 11, 1932 – March 23, 2016) was a German politician and functionary of the SED in East Germany. He served as the head of the Politburo's office from June 1986 until December 1989. Schwertner began his career in the SED in 1949 and held various positions, including the secretary of the SED's veterinary faculty. He earned a doctorate in economics, received multiple awards for his service, and died at the age of 84.
