He came from a wealthy family, with his father being a merchant in straw hats and his mother a professor and poet who played a crucial role in introducing him to poetry. Jara Idrovo achieved notable recognition when he received Ecuador's National Prize in Literature, the Premio Eugenio Espejo, awarded by the President of Ecuador in 1999. He passed away in his hometown on April 8, 2018.
