Egil Sæther was a Norwegian geologist born on February 19, 1918, in Stange. After completing his examinations in 1937, he studied to become a cand.real. with a major in geology by 1943 and worked as a lecturer at the Norwegian Institute of Technology. Despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and losing the ability to move his limbs in 1954, he continued to conduct research from his sickbed and earned a dr.philos. degree. In 1962, he received the Fridtjof Nansen reward for his research on the volcanic rocks of the Oslo area.
