Einar Kristian Smedsvig, born on January 8, 1942, in Haugesund, is a retired lieutenant general in the Norwegian Air Force. He trained as a fighter pilot in Canada and served in various flying squadrons. Smedsvig was squadron leader of 332 Squadron, the first squadron equipped with F-16 in 1980. He held the position of Chief Inspector of the Air Force from 1991 to 1997 and served as Chief of Staff at NATO Command in the UK and Commander of Northern Norway and the Northern Defense Command from 2000 to 2002.
