Ekkayuth Anchanbutr was a controversial Thai pyramid scheme operator and political activist, born on June 24, 1954. He led the Charter Investment pyramid scheme, which collapsed in 1983, prompting his flight to England in 1984. Anchanbutr returned to Thailand in 2004 after the statute of limitations expired, and he became known for his criticism of Prime Ministers Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra. He was tragically murdered in June 2013, with his driver confessing to the crime for financial motives.
