Ekkehard Martin Appl is a German jurist born on July 8, 1960, in Weilburg. He has served as a judge at the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof) since December 2, 2002. Appl began his legal career in the higher judicial service of Hesse in 1990 and held various positions, including judge at multiple courts and scientific employee roles. He was appointed chair judge at the Regional Court of Erfurt and later became involved with the Federal Court, where he has served in the Criminal Senate since 2006 and was vice-chair from 2014 to 2023.
