Eknath Easwaran (December 17, 1910 – October 26, 1999) was an Indian spiritual teacher, author, translator, and interpreter of Indian religious texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads. He taught English literature at Nagpur University before moving to the United States in 1959 on a Fulbright scholarship. In 1961, he founded the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation and the Nilgiri Press in Northern California, which published over thirty of his books. Easwaran was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and developed a unique method of meditation known as passage meditation.
