He gained infamy for a high-profile scam involving the sale of the municipal clock tower in Guayaquil to a European couple. Reyes was recognized for his intelligence, confidence, and cultural knowledge, which he used to successfully deceive wealthy entrepreneurs and influential individuals. He was also accused of homicide before his death on December 16, 2013, in Quito, Pichincha.
