Eldert Johannes Willems (1923-2012) was a Dutch visual artist, philosopher, and poet, known for painting under the pseudonym Saeftinge. He attended Vossius Gymnasium in Amsterdam and was a classmate of poet Hanny Michaelis, who wrote about him in her posthumous diaries. Willems was married to opera singer and artist Iny Nahuys for 60 years. He lived in several places before settling in Texel. He earned his PhD in 1978 with a thesis exploring the relationship between art and philosophy, which resulted in academic controversy.
