Eleftherios N. Economou is a Greek theoretical physicist and Emeritus Professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Crete. He has significantly contributed to various fields of condensed matter physics, starting from his doctoral research on surface plasmonics in 1969. He played a key role in advancing theoretical physics in Greece since the late 1970s, and he was instrumental in establishing the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) where he served as its first Director. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and has published extensively in his field.
