Eli Kassner was a Canadian classical guitar teacher and musician, born on May 27, 1924, in Vienna and passed away on August 23, 2018, in Toronto. He studied guitar in Vienna, Israel, and the United States, notably with virtuoso Andrés Segovia. In 1951, he moved to Canada and founded the Guitar Society of Toronto in 1956. Kassner established guitar programs at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music, mentoring notable students including Liona Boyd and Jesse Cook. He received honorary degrees and was inducted into the Guitar Foundation of America's Hall of Fame.
