Elias Hanna Syriani was a Palestinian immigrant to the United States and a former Jordanian soldier. He gained notoriety as a convicted murderer after the 28 July 1990 murder of his wife, for which he was executed by lethal injection in North Carolina. At the age of 67, he became one of the oldest individuals executed in the U.S. since 1976. His case was also highlighted in advertisements by Benetton that supported the death penalty.
