Elias Wakan is a constructivist sculptor born on April 20, 1945, known for his geometric wooden sculptures made from thousands of identical pieces of wood. He has been creating art on Gabriola Island, British Columbia, Canada, since 1996, producing works that evoke the Russian Constructivist movement. His designs often feature straight-edged unit shapes that, when assembled, create abstract, curved forms. Before relocating to Gabriola, Wakan co-owned Pacific-Rim Publishers with his poet wife, Naomi Wakan, who served as Nanaimo's inaugural poet laureate.
