Elisabeth Joy Murdoch AC DBE (née Greene; February 8, 1909 – December 5, 2012) was an Australian philanthropist and the wife of newspaper publisher Sir Keith Murdoch, as well as the mother of businessman Rupert Murdoch. In 1963, she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her charitable work. As the matriarch of the Murdoch family, she had 77 direct descendants, including six great-grandchildren.
