Eliška Misáková was a Czech artistic gymnast born on October 12, 1925, in Kojetice, Czech Republic. She was a member of the Czechoslovak team that won gold at the 1948 London Olympics. Unfortunately, she contracted polio during the journey to London and was unable to compete, with her place taken by the reserve gymnast. Misáková passed away in a London hospital on August 14, 1948, just hours after her teammates won gold. Her tragic story led to her being awarded an honorary gold medal posthumously.
